Oscoda Polaroid Shots

 These are some images I shot in Oscoda with my vintage Polaroid Land Camera. I really just love this camera. Even though it gave me fits on the trip, and I wanted to toss it into the water, I ended up with some decent shots. There is nothing like the instant gratification of instant film photography.

Still Life

I am currently taking a lighting class with the Art Institute. As such, at the beginning of the second week, we were asked to arrange a still life and experiment with lighting. I decided to go with this arrangement based on colors and texture. The intent with this specific image, as far as light, was to create a dramatic feel with side lighting, while also maintaining separation between subject and background. I used two strobes to get this combination, with one strobe pointed at the object from the direct left to create a soft side light, and one above and to the right aiming at both the object and background to create edging and separation. 

Maybe too many details for some, but I have oftentimes found myself wondering how photographers create certain images and lighting scenarios.. And really, when it comes down to it, what is photography without light? So, "fiat lux" (bring on the light) as my professor would say, and the stories that come with it!  :)
